With its history including piracy, fishing, and missiles, today Topsail Island is a lovely spot for putting down your roots or for your yearly vacation spot somewhere on the 26 mile island. With a business district of local shops and restaurants, the island provides a wonderful mix of leisure coastal life and bustling commercial opportunities.

Beginning with tales of pirates to missile testing during WWII, the town of Surf City incorporated in 1949 and Topsail Beach was incorporated in 1963. North Topsail Beach was just incorporated in 1990. A floating bridge ended the boat-only accessibility and was later replaced with the iconic “Swing Bridge”. 2018 brought the new “Surf City Bridge” which now brings travelers and residents to Topsail Island.

Three towns occupy the island: Surf City, Topsail Beach, and North Topsail Beach. Each has its own personality and appeal.

Sandy beaches, delicious restaurants, and activities that include everything from spending your day taking in the sunshine in the ocean breezes to pier fishing to putt putt to Bingo to the Missiles and More Museum await you on Topsail Island!

The area’s job opportunities include educational, medical, technological, industrial, and even the film industry. Many who serve our country commute to Camp Lejeune, Camp Geiger, and New River Air Station in Jacksonville, not to mention Sunny Point in Brunswick County and the US Coast Guard Station in Wrightsville Beach. Of course, the hospitality and tourism industry provides many retail and service jobs.
